I anticipate what users might need to do and ensure that the interface has elements that are easy to access, understand, and use to facilitate those actions.

USER RESEARCH

I conduct studies to understand user behaviors, needs, and motivations through observation techniques, task analysis, and other feedback methodologies.

About me

I started my design journey in 2005 after I got out of the military and started Carnegie Mellon’s architecture program. I believe my architecture background gives me an advantage over other designers because I always design for the people who will be using my products and not for myself. I’ve been trained to own or to be accountable for every aspect of the creation process and I’ve carried these teachings with me in my design career.

I care about solving problems, plain and simple. Solving problems for people gets me excited and fills me with a sense of purpose. I try to keep the designs as simplistic as possible because people might actually be using my solutions everyday. The designs strive to be so intuitive that users don’t really need explanation or guidance. They should feel as if they’ve been there before, while seeing it for the first time. I’ve done my job if users do less work to accomplish the same tasks they did before and they enjoy themselves while doing it.

My journey

We hire veterans because they make our company stronger and more diverse. They serve our mission like they served their country - with passion, integrity, and a commitment to getting the job done right. Take a look at what veterans bring to PayPal, and companies across the world.
As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, meet Carl Covington, a Senior UX Designer and active member of PayPal's community groups, including Serve for Veterans and Amplify for our African American workforce. Carl deployed overseas three times with the U.S. Army and truly understands what it means to perform under pressure.
It was a crowning achievement for California native Carl Covington when he walked up to receive his diploma from Carnegie Mellon University on the legs he had almost lost in Iraq.
